In 1971 Troy, Michigan opened its first public library. Marguerite Hart, a children's librarian, wrote to many politicians, writers, artists, and other "notables" asking them to send a few inspirational words to the children of Troy. This letter was sent by Dr. Suess.

There are some other sweet ones at the Library of Troy's website. Another particularly sweet one is by the then governor of Hawaii, John Burns.
