Jennae of Blush & Whim
Next up in our Local Favorites series, meet Jennae Saltzman of Blush & Whim Wedding Planning. She's the Owner and Lead Planner behind the beautiful weddings and events put together by Blush & Whim. She's also one of the co-founders of Styled for Good, the first ever nonprofit wedding showcase in Minnesota. She was kind enough to take a few moments out of wedding season to answer some questions for us and we can't thank her enough! Enjoy!
1. What got you interested in wedding planning?
I have always loved wedding planning! I planned my very first wedding when I was 8. It was a fabulous union between my dog Dusty and my best friend’s dog Daisy. The whole soiree took place in the comfort of my parent’s backyard with my guinea pigs acting as the bridal party and a neighbor girl playing hot cross buns on the recorder. The reception was complete with powdered lemonade, keebler elf cookies, and a cake made of milk bones. It was pretty fab.
2. Where does the name Blush & Whim come from?
My love of feminine and soft color pallets (blush) and the joy of spontaneous ideas (whims)
3. What's the most exciting part of your job?
Collaborating with AMAZING vendors and seeing our vision come to life- it’s so exciting to see the look on a client’s face when everything comes together.
4. How do you stay inspired?
I am inspired by so many things! A good movie, a pretty poem or line from a favorite book, art, fashion, nature, the list goes on! I love looking for inspiration in everyday things and people.
5. What would your dream venue be?
A venue that is inside but feels like you are outside- lots of natural light, whimsical foliage, and interesting architecture.
6. What's something you do that you never thought would be a part of your job?
There is SO much more guidance and personal support for my clients that goes into the job that I never thought would be part of it. It’s so amazing to work with so many wonderful clients who let us into their lives and look to us for not only guidance on what color scheme and vendors to choose, but also how to handle the tough stuff like family dynamics and emotional struggles while planning a wedding. It’s a part of the job that is really special and we take it very seriously!
7. What's your proudest achievement?
I am a co-founder of a nonprofit organization called Styled For Good that matches generous vendors with deserving couples and organizations who are in need of event services. It has been the most amazing and rewarding experience of my life and has allowed me to be creative while also giving back in a big way!
8. What would your perfect day in the Twin Cities be?
Sleeping in, going for a walk on Summit Ave with my husband Elliot and golden Berkeley. Brunching on the AMAZING WA Frost patio, taking boat cruise down the St. Croix River, and finishing off the day with drinks at Tattersall and a delicious dinner at 112 Eatery!
9. If you weren't a wedding planner what would you be?
Probably an elementary school art teacher. Helping kids discover their creative side is so cool!
10. What would you do with an extra hour in a day?
Cook! Love having enough time to really dig into a complicated recipe and make something delish!
